I don't think you'll regret it.

We've finally got rid of our tin shed and it's soon to be replaced with a wooden one so I can retreat to the bottom of the garden and tinker with things with no fear of catching pneumonia :)

I realise I seem to be in a minority (of one?!) on this topic, but for the sake of balance can I just add my experience of Trimetals bike garages. I've had one for about two years now; its not flimsy, its not cheap and Trimetals were a helpful company to deal with.

Occasionally I get a little condensation, but it really is very little cos the garage is well ventilated. It would have been far cheaper to buy a timber shed, but my main considerations were security and fire risk (in my line of work I've seen too many timber sheds go up in flames!). My metal bike garage covers both issues admirably and far outweighs a tiny drop of condensation.

As with the aquisition of anything, it depends on your own circumstances and/or priorities ;)
I can't decide whether to be a good example.......or a horrible warning

Best bet is to build your own shed . Use 3"x2" for the framework and you can make a nice strong floor . It can be all to your own spec and size etc
Suzuki DL650 (Wee) with many nice mods ..

Yamaha XT660Z Tenere also modded ..

I haven't had a Trimetals shed but I did used to have a metal shed.

All of the above were issues so it was only used for lawnmower storage and the like in the end.

Also, the roofs are very flimsy and won't take your weight so if you stand on the roof as seems a good idea when drunk, you will fall straight through and get a round of applause as you walk back out through the shed doors. I know this to be true

I have a 12x8 metal shed with sliding doors, condensation is the only issue. I put in a wooden floor but didn't make it better. Luckly I have the option of a Garage so I keep bike in that. I'd get a wooden shed instead of tin.

I've got one.. .Never had condensation in it.

I don't know why. Probably because it's full of junk.

I've heard a solution to condensation is to line the inside of the roof with sheets of polystyrene. However, I've never tried it.

Done that as I read that as well!

All it did was warm the lower air (below the panels) which then met the colder surface (above the polystyrene)...... and it dripped even more down past the panels.

The only solution (i seem to remember when I spent ages looking into the problem a few years ago) was a form of spray foam. People have used it in the insulation of lofts/rooves in houses - you blast the roof with it and that equalises the internal temperatures to a sufficient degree to stop the condensation.

Metal motorcycle garage

Post by doctorzippy »

I've had a Trimetals shed/garage for 5 years and kept various bikes in it. I've never had a problem with condensation, it's sturdy enough and unlike a wooden shed, counts as a proper garage for insurance purposes. I don't have room for a real garage at home, so this shed has to be up to the job, and it is.

In other words, I'd recommend one.

I can't vouch for other metal sheds.
