Picos and Spanish trails info?? Help !!!

Post by steveaaa0 »

A friend and I are off to the Picos in Spain in July, and for the first time we will be looking for some tracks and trails to explore :)

Being as were relative newbies to the area can anybody help with info on any places to ride, campsites that they have found that they can recommend.

Any info however small would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Steve

Hi steve....

The place I was on about at the chilton meet is called "Bardenas Reales" ..

http://www.bardenas-reales.net/pageaccueil.htm

http://www.fell-walker.co.uk/page67.htm

that should wet your appetite..there are no maps for this area but the trail is circular and well marked and fine on big bikes with road tyres..sandy in places so you might/will fall but its a soft landing..just like morocco but nearer

pico mendez is the guy for the pico`s...but most trails are closed as its a national park..but the circular road is good with some off shoots..

what sat nav you taking...as I might have some tracks but not routes ;)

also browse this.."wikiloc"

Love the Pico's for its 'simple'layout and laid back 'tude.
The quadbike hire shop in Potes (on the left just after the petrol station) at the junction for the Grande Route, will help with local routes etc. Try the ski lift at Fuente De, for a great ride up 3-4000 ft (only 2 towers for the rope, Bottom and top and 3000ft between. Cool up there.

Look up the Grand Tour route for tarmac and views, about 120 miles and worth a punt.

The road from the Motorway down to Potes is full of tourists and a bit 'close' times, but once there, quiet enough. Have fun .(Jealous) ;)

Just be careful riding the trails in the Picos
Not allowed in the national park anymore - 1000 euro fine & patroled & enforced by the park rangers !
