What do you have in your puncture kit?

Post by JimboF650 »

Since I started riding I've been carrying around the same can of tyre fix - now that I'm doing a bit more riding I think I should be more prepared should/when I get a puncture. Firstly I need to learn the technique, secondly put together a decent puncture kit.

Read on here 'Buzzeti' levers are good - so will order some of them. Should I bother with a patch kit or just tubes (spoked wheels) or patch kit no tubes? So what else talc, soap etc?

Advice welcomed - thanks

Although bulky carrying spare tubes makes the problem much quicker and easier to sort.

Try patching a tube on a cold, wet, dark night, not too easy Jim.

Practising at home with the tools you intend to carry is worth the effort.

Squeezed into the plastic pouch a pair of gloves came in, I have Slime, some cannisters of CO2 and the part to fit them to the valve and to finish off a mini foot pump from Bike It.

Motion Pro spannerlevers - expensive, but save carrying both levers, and tools to get the wheels out.

I carry a front tube and a patch kit. Spare tube means you don't have to patch by the roadside, but can wait till you're somewhere convenient. But if you don't carry a patch kit, you're stuffed if you get multiple punctures.

And yes, I always change my tyres at home with my trail toolkit and nothing else, for the practice.

After my Morocco trip and getting a flat on the way down in Spain and pizzin around with patches , nipping a new tube and sore fingers i put moose in !!! I know it's ment to be temporary but thought i'd leave it in untill i needed to fix it !!!! It's still in over 4k kms later
I still carry 1 or 2 tubes (depending on the length of the trip) puncture kit and now moose , its fast and works !!!

I have a Kreiga 10 litre bag with a tool roll, 3 spare tubes and a small electric pump. I have a pair of tyre irons jubilee clipped to my luggage rack. On the way home from Scotland a couple of years ago I had 3 rear punctures!
