The larkhill side is closed and the range lookout post [best bit] so the week before I`ll try and find out just what is open and closed..

I ride on the plain all the time on both a KTM 990 Adventure & a 690 Enduro. It is fine for dirty virgins in the dry, but if wet, the chalk sections turn to ice!! Be warned!! A mate fell off there a couple of years ago and broke both wrists at the same time, then rode home to Milton Keynes...GOOD EFFORT!!

If any bikes have ABS, turn it off or take the fuse out. ABS on the dirt is about as useful as Anne Franks drum kit!! I've now fitted a permanent ABS Off swith on my 990.

Be prepared to fall off & don`t worry about scuffing the bike........That's what they're for!!

I had a look at Tramp's route on the map the other day and the big bikes will be fine. This kinda stuff

Easy. No debate

This day is a novice day for people like me. Its about getting a taste for it & learning some new skills. It is not about breaking bones or trashing your bike

I am sure that there will be some bits that are a tad more testing but as you will see from the thread, a lot of SPTA is going to be closed which means that we will probably be confined to the perimeter tracks. Think of these a heavily gravelled roads with pot holes. A bit like this...



When we get closer to the day, I will speak to Range Control to check what is & isnt open. I'll then confirm routes with Tramp/other team leaders & go & drive them in my Landie - just to check they really are 'novice friendly'

Finally, we will be going at the pace that the slowest rider ... because that will be me ! :laugh:

a warning for those of us meeting at loomies-

i thought they open at 0700 weekends but ive looked at the website and thats only sundays, saturdays is 0800. its still convenient to meet there of course but 0800 and a coffee/bap will make it highly improbable we get 50mi to pewsey by 0900 to meet the others.

so can i suggest we are all breakfasted before meeting at loomies at 0730?

or, is there a place where we're meeting to get a quick bite?

If people would like some breakfast on the way, how about meeting at Micks on Portsdown Hill (as suggested earlier)?
