ABR Ireland Rally 30th May-1st June 2014 - Official Sign Up Thread

Post by Heff »

Hi all

After the success of the first ABR meet, I hope the good reviews and feedback from those who attended will see this event grow year on year.

Again, the venue for this event will be the same as last year, Meelmore Lodge. This is a family run campsite at the foot of Slieve Meelmore in the area of the Mourne Mountains, County Down. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty within the 'Kingdom of Mourne'

More site information can be found here http://www.meelmorelodge.com/

For those making ferry crossings from GB, this location is approximately 1 hour south of Belfast and around 2 hours north of Dublin.

The on-site cafe will again be available to supply hot food, snacks, tea, coffee etc. They have also agreed to offer attending ABR's Ruth's full traditional Ulster Fry breakfast, which seemed to go down well.

There is also full campsite/carpark CCTV coverage for peace of mind re bike security which is beside the B&B hostel. You can also park beside your tent if required

There is NO pub in close proximity to the site, so any beer etc will be required to be brought with you, or purchased locally in Newcastle, which is only a few miles away.

Getting a taxi from the campsite to Newcastle is £4pp return (based on 4 persons sharing)

The site owners have also agreed to host a curry night on the Saturday if required and will be agreed £ per person nearer the event.

Price;
For those using tents, this is still to be agreed but it is anticipated that it will be the same as last year at £5 per person per night. Payment to host on arrival

There is also a B&B option within the campsite, but for those attending and wish to avail of this option, you must book it directly with the campsite as there are only a limited number of spaces available.
Ask for Ruth Tel: 028 43725949 or 43726657

Ride Outs

Friday.
Meet and greet. No ride outs planned, but feel free to explore if you feel the need.

Saturday
This will be an all day ride out, of around 200 miles, which will be a very scenic tour of the Ards Peninsula, taking in a costal run along the west of Strangford Lough, then continuing along the coast to the campsite.

Lots of camera stops will be on the cards and a fuel stop and most importantly, coffee stops.

Just hope the weather gods look favourably on us this year.

Sunday

This will be a 60 mile tour around the Kingdom of Mourne.

There is no off road option at this rally as there are no open trails that I am aware of.

So see you all on the 30th May at Irelands 2nd ABR Event

The 2 to 3 weeks later than it was this year might cause some problems getting home on the ferry for me as that is tt week and the ferry price will go up a lot,i will have to do some research as I am looking forward to this once again.

Gaz, I fully understand where you are coming from. I had hoped to run this rally the week before the NW200, but The Boil rally beat me to the planned weekend. I am also aware the dates conflict with the TT which runs for 2 weeks from 24th May.

Hopefully things will work out.

Hi Heff......I am confirming my attendance! :)
Will also probably be bringing Nicola with me again as she really enjoyed it last year (which means I'll be two-up).
