GPS

Post by Barcelona Pat »

Got my maps for the Americas from Bob at Smellybiker - see:

http://www.smellybiker.com/cgi-bin/show_maps.cgi

They are not bad, and a darn sight cheaper than Garmin - but for Argentina and Chile the most detailed (and free) are from:

http://www.proyectomapear.com.ar/eng_tutorial/index.htm

Don't be put off that the website is in Spanish - there is an English instruction manual to walk you through the download process. The maps work great with Mapsource - and are ready to transfer to your Garmin device.

Just wish someone would do the whole world like that!

Thought I'd post just in case anyone else might find it of use (and I didn't like this section of the forum being unpopulated!)

Yep - pretty much (thanks). I looked at OSM previously - but for a GPS numpty like me it just all seemed a bit much. The Mapear project stuff, however, was soooo easy to access and use - and looks very similar to the most detailed Garmin products.

I guess I jus want everything handed to me on a plate

Thanks again

Here is another site with free world maps from the open street map project for Garmin that I use, therefore must be easy. Its quite easy to download and install the map you want, but give me a shout if you need

open street map

and an alternative
