Garmin 595LM - 590LM or Montana 680T ???

Post by Emf#53 »

Looking to get a new sat nav but not sure if it's going to be the 590LM 595Lm or the Montana 680T.

I'm reasonably aware of the 590 / 595 differences but would the 680T give me much more than the other two.

Most of the use will be on the bike - mainly onroad.

Any advice would greatly appreciated (thumbs)

Montana is good, especially for off road/Topo maps.
I went from a Zumo 660 to the Montana. But changed back to the road based 590LM.
The 590 does more stuff that I need more often.

Horses for courses I guess.

I have the Garmin Montana 650T.
Always had Garmin on all the bikes, the 650T was an upgrade from the 60 CSx.
I use it for off-road and on road on two bikes with the rugged mount powered, and works well. Also have the car kit and that works well.
The option of storing various profiles is very helpful. The preloaded TOPO map is very good.
It's very easy to use, takes great geotagged photos. Easy to install free maps from the open source.
I have no experience of the other Garmins.
Good luck with your choice.

Can you get text alerts, WhatsApp alerts etc from your phone onto the screen on the 590?

I believe that it can be done on the 595 but I'm reading conflicting information about if the 590 can do it or not.

If it can then it would save me having the phone mounted to the handelbars as well as the sat nav like I had with the 660.
