Mine does this. It's not cool...

if you get an Etrex 20, you can put FREE Open street maps on it - they're based on OS maps.
See http://talkytoaster.info/ukmaps.htm for the maps

Thanks fatowl that's brilliant, is it possible to get maps of Spain a similar way?

Yep! Sorry, I was calling it OSM in my earlier post. Open Street Maps - I have free Morocco, Spain, France, Italy and Austria - is not always perfect, but good enough (thumbs)

Full instructions (simples) here: Horizons Unlimited - OSM Thread

I did the same with the whole of North and South America. Not one map mind you, too big a file, divided into: Canada, East US, West US, Central and South America. Some remote towns only had basic roads in them, others were fully detailed including fuel, McDonalds etc. It really depends if someone from the relevant village has uploaded his local area to OSM.

I used them all to good effect. There was not much difference between them and the Garmin version. Sadly, IIRC, they do not work on TomTom.

There's a trailing "/" on the url for Horizons Unlimited, stopping it working (in my browser anyway)

It's a good link, tells you what to do.
this is it without the "/".
