Google maps gpx import?
Re: Google maps gpx import?
im confused  ..google files are kml...garmin are gpx....so can be changed easily...you can view gpx files on google earth just import file as a kml string (thumbs) ...vice versa just convert a kml file to a gpx file sure basecamp lets you do that..
always check the file works on the satnav before riding as it saves :woohoo: moments

Re: Google maps gpx import?
Thanks Tramp, but I'm wanting to use Google maps to navigate on my phone generally (it works really well as it updates routes based on current traffic), but occasionally I download a gpx file from ABR if I'm just going out for riding's sake so it'd be great if I could use the Google maps app for that too...

It can be done easily when you know how to convert between gpx and kml

Google maps gpx import?
Not sure if this helps but I create my routes on google maps, save as .kml files, load onto my maps.me app and navigate using the maps.me file on my phone. Saw me across Africa without the need for a specialist sat nav.

Dead easy! I use, https://mapstogpx.com/ to convert the google maps route to .gpx file format, then import to Garmin Basecamp and from there send to by Garmin sat nav.

Re: Google maps gpx import?
Thanks Zimtim and Tempesc, had a go with both of those solutions and have made headway in as much as I can now import a route into both google maps and maps.me...
The downside is that I can't find a way of actually using them to navigate in either app.I can get it to appear as an overlay but can't use it to get turn by turn nav.
Aaargh! am I missing something obvious??

Google maps gpx import?
In maps.me go into bookmarks - your locations should be listed. Select the location you want to navigate to and then when it opens in the map select route. This should now give you turn by turn instructions.
This is not perfect as it may try and deviate from your google maps route if it prefers a different route but this should be visible on your phone so you can take your preferred route 'manually' if you prefer.
Don't forget to download all the maps you need so they are available offline.
Hope this helps.

Re: Google maps gpx import?
Hi, I know that this is an old post but I’m trying to follow the instructions for loading a gpx file into google satnav via google earth as described. I’m stuck at the step which moves the file fromzimtim wrote:It can be done easily when you know how to convert between gpx and kml

Basecamp into Google Earth. Any suggestions? I don’t need detailed off-road and track planning, happy to keep to roads.
