New Magazine

Post by boboneleg »

My new magazine was delivered this morning, I'm very pleased to see it arriving through the letterbox again.

However, a word of warning. It came in a paper envelope which had become completely unsealed at one end, it could have been so easily lost.

I never had a problem with the previous cellophane type envelopes.

Right there with you. Luckily my post man is alright and handed it to me so that it wouldn't fall out.

Does that mean it's online too ? I subscribed digitally ages ago but have only ever looked once or twice as is took too long for the pages to appear and to be honest haven't been bothered since. (got no patience!) :)

Mine arrived more or less open, too!
But it's arrived, and, with the weather forecast for the next couple of days looking a bit "meh!", I should have a bit of time to read it :D

No thanks, I like to hold the mag in my hands, then I pass it on for others to read.

Mine also had the envelope completely unsealed ... I thought my postie had been using it for his "sit-down" reading material

There's a general move to paper envelopes for magazine postage for environmental reasons. But it is more expensive and less reliable than 'polylopes'.

I do worry about the future of magazines...even Q is going to close. I've been very lucky to have worked through the greatest days of magazine publishing. Sadly, the industry embarked on a cycle of decline in response to 'the net.'

Two glorious exceptions are The Economist and Private Eye. In each case they show you need a strong cover and at least one must read story for every issue. Do that, and you can command a high enough cover price to not be advertising-dependent.

I do very little or no work now for consumer/high street magazines.

Bob my reply was to Soho re the online version.

I too prefer the actual mag, but also download a copy to my iPad. Handy for reading in work.
