What I don't understand is why there is even the need for a consultation? Unless I'm missing something I don't think the UK is overrun with dirt bikes or 4x4s tearing up the countryside? No doubt there are areas where there is some illegal use and I'm sure that it's very annoying if you live in an area that suffers from it, but is it so widespread and are even law abiding users such a nuisance that they have to ban us? I don't think so.

Anything with an engine is 'destroying the world'.

Petrol lawn mowers are being banned in California.

Meanwhile Liz Truss flies to Australia in a government jet, when she could have gone by Quantas. Still the flight only cost us half a million quid, and probably quite a lot of CO2 emitted into the upper atmosphere, where it causes global warming, apparently.

The CO2 from our bikes is emitted at ground level, and gets absorbed by vegetation. Green lane; the clue's in the name.

I was amazed when I read that story and at first I thought it was a joke but sadly not. I can understand taking a gov plane in an absolute matter of urgency and if it’s to a dangerous place but just for a routine trade meeting is properly taking the piss, if it cost £500k. You can fly business class to oz for £5k so even if she had 9 people with her they could have done it for a tenth of the price.

It’s even more unbelievable when you see what she wrote on the subject in 2009.

Greetings all,

Today I have seen that the 'consultation" is open and that the Ramblers' Association is asking for their Members to respond.

However, may I suggest that we keep our powder dry for a little while yet and wait for guidance from GLASS and/or the TRF as to how they want us to respond.

Surveys such as these are often written in such a way as to lead towards a predefined end and I am sure that it will not be one to our benefit that is for sure 🤔

Hugh.

My son and I ride together a lot on the TET
Yesterday we walked up Cader Idris in Snowdonia.
Whilst there are obviously occasional rare exceptions such as muddy bombholes, we both reckoned that the walkers path up to the top of Cader Idris was in worse condition than 99% of the TET we have ridden in the last 6 months.
Noise and pollution can be argued of course but on a WR125R that is 12 years old and doing 90mpg whilst producing a sound on the OE exhaust not too far from a wet fart, you're not going to have much less of an environmental impact than he does.
As Bojo has demonstarted amply over the last couple of years, hypocrisy wont be too far from this argument

One side will be listened to, and the other ignored.

See the recent changes to the Highway Code...it's OK now to cycle past a lorry while it is turning left or right, and you can choose which side you do it. If you get squashed, it's the lorry-driver's fault.

This will make the roads safer for cyclists...apparently!

You could not make it up.
