I was solo and failed to get this out. Tried for a few hours. No option but to abandon the bike and walk 6 miles to rescue. Left it over night and went back and 3 of us recovered it......many years ago now!

To be honest, 200 kg + bikes and deep mud are really not made for each other.
A tyre that can deal with the mud won't be very good at dealing with a 200 kg + bike.

when I last rode a trail bike, a few months ago, I had enough trouble on firm trails .. mind, they Were Welsh,

I do a lot of solo riding and carry a spool of ?zing-it. It's rated at ~800 lbs. That and the ratchet end of a ratchet strap give me a lot of piece of mind. I can get it out alone if I need to.
Having that in my tool kit I go places I otherwise wouldn't. On one trip I went down a gentle hill and near the bottom it started turning into a swamp. Tried to stop but just kept sliding. Got it into the grass, which was better. I thought it was going to take all day to get back up, but at the bottom I found the road continued as a dry path. Glad I was going south and not north.

This is a ace pic and what is the enduro rider thinking looking at the moped rider.... I've got the wrong vehicle and tyres lol..

Not to mention the moped riders joggers and flip flops.
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

As said by everyone tyre choice is key, also think route, exit, consider walking the hazard if you don't know the area, is it man made or a natural bog ( less likely to have a firm base, riding wise bigger bikes do lend themselves to more speed, bit of a poison challis though, if your not that confident or experienced, treat soggy mud like sand, relax let the bikes rake n trail do it's work, let the bike move around under you.
Find a place where the mud is only 20 - 30 meters from end to end with a good exit, you can practice knowing that you have a good exit route.
Turning the bike through mud, look through the turn, up on the pegs ( lowers the centre of gravity of the bike ) weight the outside peg as you put the power on.
