Love the colours. Do you remember the cover of Which Bike magazine - about 2004 - where good old Chris Dabbs ragged an FJ1100 knee down ? Back then Yamaha marketed the FJ as a pure sports bike, up against the GPZ900R etc. It didn't take long for buyers to realise it was far more of a tourer. But Chris still mashed the thing into every corner on test, determined to get that shot. Love 'im.

mm .. I had an Fj1200 ... not clear in the brain if i had 2? ... beautiful machine, black with sparkly bits in the paintwork ... would cruise lovely at 130mph, there were no cameras about in those days, couldn't even feel the wife on the back, used to race sportscars up to cirencester, was dissappointed i could only do 145 steady, possibly more 155? ..but i wsnt looking at the speedo, just trying to keep the beast straight, it used to jump about on the road a lot, at speed. used to take it to work when i didnt have a car for a while, went back on the tools, bag on the back and level down the side lol, took it down bristol, wass is name? phil hacker, sooped it up a bit but spoiled the ride, it was top heavy anyway and a real lump to handle on tight corners .... did many many miles on that bike, wife tried to sell it without me knowing, cunt, but went everywhere on it, france spain italy etc and oxford, pie on the wold, welsh hills rhigos, lynton, weymouth, pebble beah place ... loads, usually camping with the wife, sometimes b n b .... great great times ... all gone now .. sometimes i woonder if i can still handle a big bike like that, had a st1100, and other big bikes, didnt realise how strong i was then, like an old fart now .. but things may get better. have a hankering for a big bike again ... but it would have to be a modern one, the fj looks so dated now, never thought it would.. ..hmmm .. on second thoughts ...

this is the closest image i could find .. but with the oem front fairing screen ..

Think you mean 1984 Dave ?
Yes I remember those knee down shots. Think they used the roundabout under the A3 at Esher for a lot of them.
He was an ex courier for the firm that I rode for . Sadly it didn't end well for him, I recall he went to work at MCN but then had an accident and ended up paralysed.
