We get refugees from the shoot on the estate the other side of our village.
Currently 4 but the record is 14.
They destroy the grass under the bird feeder so we’re having to lay some paving.

Talking of plucking ................

We have a few unusual birds visiting our suburban garden, and once in a while this sparrowhawk comes along for a brief "recce".
However, I didn't realise how ambitious she was until yesterday: she caught this pigeon, which was, I suspect, bigger and heavier than her.

This morning, I went to check/remove the remains - empty ribcage, wings and feet, and a lot of feathers!

Great photo, I'm a big fan of raptors.
At the other end of the spectrum i had to more or less stop in the road recently to let a peacock cross the road on my way home from work!

I live next to a church tower and there is resident sparrowhawk--good viewing point. I regularly find remnants of pigeons in my garden and it does a few low and fast swoops from time to time--you can always tell when its about as the garden birds fall silent and hide. When I drive out on the fens to the workshop I usually see at least two kestrels and the occasional sparrowhawk and buzzard--a good sign of the health of the local area. I'm also pleased to see quite a few plovers that seem to be making a comeback. There several gravel working lakes as well so we get a good range of water based birds including white little egrets now (smaller than a heron?).

Another local just pop in

I came across a Tawny Owl on my way to work one morning the summer before last.

He was sat in the middle of the lane and wouldn’t move so I carefully picked him up, popped him on the wall and took this photo.

I called back an hour later to see if he was still there (thinking he could be injured) but was pleased to see he’d gone.

Lots of locals in my yard -so many so that we don't spend a lot of time bewteen the cars and the front door at night as a few of them like meat...

The sheep come through our yard 4-5 times per year on their way up and down the mountain. Turkeys are a daily occurence as are the marmots...
