When I visit the GF, I leave the bike in a private car park, but its accessable to the public. I have two choices as to where to chain the bike up:
1. Out of sight, but only a padlock & chain through the wheel
2. In full view, but chained to a lampost
Where would you leave it??

Depends on where its on full view, but generally yep on view is better than hidden. as it takes awaay any cover scallys have to work on your chain/locks.
Bear in mide people are generally good (so things left in plain sight should be ok), and if a thief really wants your bike he will have it (no amount of chains or alarms will ever stop them)
Get insurance an enjoy your time at your girlfriends

Chained to something is better, gits cant lift it into a van then. B) Alternatively change the GF for one with a garage.

A decent girlfreind would know your bikes security is paramount and would let you bring it indoors B)

I use my bike almost every day and park in a variety of car/bike parks and other public places. Quite frankly, I never cease to be amazed at how little good quality security many bike owners use; I'd say 4 out of 5 bikes are just asking to be nicked with security ranging from nothing to poor quality disc locks. I'd urge everyone to use a big, hefty 'f**k off' chain and lock secured to something solid, preferably in a place in view of cctv monitoring. If possible, keep the chain and lock off the ground so they can't be frozen and whacked with a sledgehammer.

Full view chained to lamp post and use a decent un-croppable (16mm style) chain. Preferred way of working is to lift it in a van, and all the better if they are tucked out of sight when doing the deed.

chained to something, tall so it cdant be lifted over, like a lampost, in full view and with a frigging bic stick behind the front door so you can run out and twat anyone who messes with it.
