I agree. The principle of 'greener' travel and less pollution/congestion in Cities is a good one but unfortunately there is not the infrastructure to integrate them and it feels like the cart is leading the horse.

although Mr Cummings tried to `upgrade` our political and planning infrastructure, bless him, it seems it needs a sea change in thought and perception, to see the future of transport, leisure activities, parking, and personal conveyances, .. with less interference as far as insurances, taxes, business rates, .. and just general public convenience and availability .. but of course that would bring in less revenue, and promote a dangerous feeling of `freedom` and `ownership` amongst the general population ....... but hey ..... its still better than middle eastern countries

But they don't.
Why the hell should car drivers, motorcyclists etc have to pay road tax, have a licence and obey the rules of the road, when anyone can buy one of these and use it knowing that, while it's illegal, they are unlikely to be challenged.
Our local police have been knocking on doors advising people that use them of a fine and points on licence, one person was cautioned for going the wrong way on a one way street. Most of the local paper delivery people had them but have stopped using them. They take a similar approach of light handed advice to people using pitbikes locally in the abandoned quarries.

We could incorporate it into the British truck racing championships.

Have the e-scooter races at the same time as the truck races, going around the other way on the circuit!

There could be a trophy for the truck that collected the most in each race :D
