Ok, first off, this is a serious post, though quite prepared for it to be "poked" fun at, to a point.
A pal has been told that he has a slightly enlarged prostate and apart form the usual diet / weight loss, he and his wife should engage in some prostate massaging to stimulate it and keep it healthy. I think it was the shock of going home and asking his wife to stick a finger up his bum that made him discuss it.
So, he says it is actually quite fun, but not going into details.
I have never heard of this, but being over 50 with increasing risks have done some research / YouTube etc. and it does seem to be thing. My only problem, being single, would be finding someone to do it with me (imagine adding that to a Match profile) as I don't fancy sticking a toy up there.
Any thoughts, anyone tried or been asked by a doctor to consider this?

Re: Prostate Massage
Fortunately only had the consultant doing one finger poke but I did have an endoscopy some years ago that wasn’t as bad as I expected plus viewing the screen was rather interesting.
I have a raised PSA level which has meant two MRI scans but all they are doing are two blood tests a year. They don’t really want to do a biopsy unless they really feel it’s necessary.
Never heard of massaging...won’t that make it bigger?

Re: Prostate Massage
Whilst this is a serious subject and a legitimate therapy for a medical problem I'm ashamed to admit I cannot stop me sniggering...
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

Re: Prostate Massage
According to Google (that well known expert in all medical things) massaging the Prostate clears out fluid and can help reduce the size.
Apparently it can also give a male orgasm. I find it all fascinating, but a little weird, probably due to my reserved Scottish upbringing.
Sorry Dave, I don't have a Match (or any other online dating account), but if I ever do, I'll put something on to see the reaction.

Re: Prostate Massage
I agree its an important subject, which we should feel OK about discussing, so happy to share.
I´ve had a high PSA and a biopsy a few years back (not recommended) and now in a process of regular monitoring as my prostate remains large. I´ve never heard of the massage thing, but have just had my latest round of tests and am due to see the specialist for a check up next Monday. Happy to ask him and feedback.

My doctor doesn’t want me to go near a biopsy until it is absolutely necessary as she has had too many infections in her patients.Barcelona Pat wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 6:52 pm I agree its an important subject, which we should feel OK about discussing, so happy to share.

At the moment my PSA is slightly raised for a 66 year old, not high, and the MRIs are ‘inconclusive’ about there being snything there but the people at Eastbourne Hospital have been great.

Re: Prostate Massage
Good to hear you are being looked after well. On reflection I can´t say the biopsy was the best approach for me (change of specialist after, and he was very surprised they went down that route given the availability of MRIs etc).DavidS wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 8:03 pmMy doctor doesn’t want me to go near a biopsy until it is absolutely necessary as she has had too many infections in her patients.Barcelona Pat wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 6:52 pm I agree its an important subject, which we should feel OK about discussing, so happy to share.
