The ol buffalo now has instant adventure heritage and kudos, when we eventually meet I might even let you touch it. (the bike that is before someone pipes up with an 'ooh er')
I didn't think I could but I love the Vara even more now.
Re the shock, I've decided to splash out the £280 on a new Hagon and £100 on new fork springs and oil, buy a manual and do it all myself.
After all, being a genuine African Queen.
, she deserves a bit of lavish attention.
Who'd have belived it but they are tough old pigs aren't they !!!!
Doing the back shock aint to bad. Get the bike up of the floor so the back end is hanging , REMOVE the Pre load adjuster knob or you wont get the old shock out !!! take the BOTTOM bolt out first let the back wheel down to sit on the floor , undo the top and remove then wriggle out the shock, it's awkward !!! Fit Hagon , you may need help holding the back wheel up so you can locate the bottom bolt.
As you can see i had props all over as i did it on my own
When you do the front make sure you support the calipers
If you've got a vice , clamp the fork between soft wood NOT TO TIGHT !!! undo the top, THIS WAS AS TIGHT AS HELL on mine !! you will have about an inch of thread , when getting near the end SLOW DOWN, or else you'll get covered in oil, tip out the old oil while holding the spring in place to get rid of most of it then remove old spring REMEMBER HOW THEY GO ( digie pics are good)
I swilled mine out with white spirit and left to drain while i had a brew !!!
Fit new pro springs, add new oil , i went for a little heavier oil(can't remember what) They need , from memory 56cc in each fork and guess what, oil comes in 1lt bottles so ended up buying 2 !!!!! Found out there was no need when using a measuring jug , there was 110cc in one bottle !!!!!
Hope this helps, i'd never done it before and got to admit i thought i'd bugger it up !!! but steady away and it worked , and i even kept all my knuckles
Here's my lovely pig
