It’s like a trades union convention on here!! I was a shop steward for the ASW (Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers) Then UCATT in the days when H&S was abysmal now to a certain extent it’s gone OTT.

But when you see what people do or don’t do, you realise why it has got excessive.
One of the best I saw a photo of, admittedly not in the UK, was a fork lift holding up a fork lift holding up a fork lift with a man working by standing on it on a pallet.
In Hong Kong, they have bamboo scaffolding held together with zip ties all going way beyond 5 storeys.

Not all trade union members are /were socialists and not all trade union activities have been positive for workers & society.
Trade union activities are not comparable to the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces.

'Crossrutted', I am confused by your comments.
I totally agree with you that not everything done by Trade Unions has been positive (British Leyland as an example) but that is with the benefit of hindsight. I know only too well by my own life experiences in such factories, and else where, how the Management worked to engineer such confrontation. I have as it were sat on both sides of the table and hold both 'blue' and 'white' collar qualifications and experiences. There are far too many aspects to discuss and through this medium they can not be fully explained as might be in a real person to person conversation.
I think I know what you mean about differences between sacrifices, I served, my youngest son served and my eldest son is currently serving so again life experiences come into play. I guess that it might be internet language rather than us disagreeing with each other.

Who owns England, both the book and the website make interesting reading. https://whoownsengland.org/
They certainly gives an insight into a lot of other political decisions in England. I am not sure that whether the same is true in other countries but in England land still equates to money and to political power. Whenever we get a political party or individual that comes close to trying to redress the balance, the right wing press goes into overdrive to smear them.
As for the unions, I think along with the great things that the Labour Party and the EU have done for the working classes we seem very quick to forget them. My brother is a lorry driver and a union rep, when he tried to recruit a Polish driver at his work, the bloke said ‘What have unions ever done for us?’, my brother looked at home in disbelief when he said that he had never heard of ‘Solidarity’.
The history curriculum in schools teaches very little about the history of workers rights or lack of them. Which I suppose is not that surprising given who has been responsible for writing it.
