Of course I'm neither biased nor bitter  but I won't be buying his book

Hugh.
No need to buy it, books shouldn't be owned by an elite who charge the rest of us to read them. Just roam into a bookshop pick it up and exercise your "Rights to Read"

Completely missed the point with that comment
...........someone put work into creating a book, who worked to create the planet and thus has rights of ownership to swathes of it? (I don't believe it was some sky-pixie, but it certainly wasn't the people saying they own it today)
If you look back throughout history you will see that the biggest bullies with the strongest armies have taken land, it has always been that way and it still happens every day all over the World. To avoid this unnecessary bloodshed we became civilised and developed a written system of Laws, bylaws, deeds etc etc to bully and control who can go where.
It is what it is and although you may feel aggrieved you cannot change it. If you don't like it then go ahead, do what you want and be prepared to deal with the consequences. I'm not in any way saying the system is just or fair but it never has been.
In reality being told you can't walk on a bit of land is truly a 1st World problem, we should count our blessings that we are not being forced from our lands because of valuable natural resources beneath us or our children being butchered for being born in the wrong place (there's enough evidence of that by the West in our history books).
As I said ......... "he has a book to sell" and it is nothing more than that.
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

Many apologise, I was being facetious in comparing the owning and selling of books to owning land and access rights and highlighting that the concerned book could be read using the very same ethos of accessing private land by the concerned author.
The thought that walking in a straight line to highlight access issues doesn't really reflect how we as humans or any non flying beast would travel, the whole route may have only been a matter of a few hundred metres from a right of way/public access.
As a deeply involved ROW researcher/activist in private life and security engineer/consultant in business I deal with land ownership and access rights from both sides on a daily basis. I do regularly see the anomalies of large estates that at some time in the past have managed to lock down the public rights of way across their land but they are a minority compared to the ones that have miles of PROW.

Interesting that the UK Govt is Compulsory Purchasing a lot of land for its pet HS2 project (argument for or against not for here) and basically bullying people on cost.

So nothing has changed, even in the 1st world, if Bobo the clown (or Nikki the fish) wants your land they will get it, be you in a 1 bed cottage or a rambling estate. CPO's go on all the time for new roads and even to aid developments.

Order the book at your local library and read it for free(ish) (shared by your other local taxpayers).

Greetings,

Our freedom, for what it is, was never 'gifted' to us but fought for by trade union socialists and more recently paid for with the lives of those who served in our armed forces and merchant navy.

I know what you mean - but lest we forget.

Greetings Bob,

In my previous life I too was a trade union officer, holding numerous posts over the years and ended up being regarded as a Convenor. I still have my first section 1 AUEFW Green Card from 1970.

I told students about the Tolpuddle Martyrs and they wouldn't believe me; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tolpuddle_Martyrs

H&S, don't get me started. There were records of a young girl being trapped by a cotton spinning machine, she lost her arm. She was taken by the mill owners to a hospital in Manchester, brought back to the mill and cared for until she recovered, eventually she went back to work - but - then had money taken from her wages to pay for the cloth which she had spoiled by her blood.

Hey ho! TTFN

Hugh.
