What else are you doing during the pandemic lockdown?

Anything goes, and mine's a Guinness.

What else are you doing during the pandemic lockdown?

Post by AlanHolt »

I had to close the doors to Spanish Motorbike Tours when the state of emergency was declared, and I found myself under lockdown at my friends farm in Spain with a girlfriend of just 3 months. My friends were due to return from Andorra (they are ski instructors) last week but they are also under lockdown. Ive done what I can on their farm to keep busy and active, pruning olive trees etc, but with the wet season upon us, I've had to find some other way of keeping occupied.
Thanks to my girlfriend, I've decided to push another passion of mine, that of cooking, but more specifically food blogging. My mum was a chef, so i've always been confident in the kitchen, and i'm always creating or adapting recipes, so I'm now taking this bull by the horns and trying to both push myself culinarily, and try to develop a following online to help others who think you need some special sort of wizardry in order to produce great tasting food at home.
Two months ago, I was a motorbike guide.
A year ago, I was a holiday home host.
Five years ago I was a truck driver for Argos.
Twenty years ago I was creating websites and working for a Sun Microsystems reseller.
Thirty years ago, I was a mechanic for Ford.

Today, i'm an aspiring food blogger. Change is good, forced change is exciting. Take a look at the blog and please be critical - www.cookingwithalan.com

So what new things have you found yourself doing during the coronavirus pandemic?

Still building the glider up in the attic. The guards don't suspect a thing.

I'm not sure why but your food blog triggered my parental control notification with BT. It might be something in your web settings that needs looking at.

May go for a ride later this week, but first get a OU submission out of the way. :D

I'm off work, have been for 4 weeks which oddly enough was a bit of a drag to start with as I've got loads of jobs to do but no materials to do any of it, I knew this was coming but didn't have chance to get them. At the moment I still have no idea when I'm going back or when they're likely to drop me to 80% pay but I shouldn't complain there's a lot of people out there in much worse situations.

My Mrs is working up in ITU with covid patients on shifts and I'm at home all day so it's been an odd roll reversal for us as it's normally me working shifts and walking around like a zombie.

I've spent a lot of time cooking trying healthier meals using less pre packaged bases, keeping the house clean and spending some quality time with our 2 dogs, things have been a little unsettled here since Christmas when we got our little spaniel puppy so it's been taking longer than we wanted on some training fronts. I've also been turning my little vivaro van into a day van/camper and sorting the running issues on it.

The rest of this week and after that is boarding the loft, decorating and snagging jobs in the kitchen I've been meaning to do since we moved in 18 months ago

I seem to be having issues adding pictures though.

Spent last week working in my home office during the day and doing pottery all night. But I spent today packing up my car and preparing the house to be empty for a week or more. Going to head north to take care of my grandson because his parents both have "essential" jobs and daycare is touch and go. Wish I could take my studio with me. Ah well. Family first.
