Health centres are businesses which are paid a set rate for various tests, reviews, vaccinations etc etc but with Covid they are set to lose £75k giving the first jabs to their allocation.
Maybe the news hasn't filtered down to him yet, but GPs will be paid £12.58 per vaccine dose. For the Pfizer vaccine, two doses per person are required. Integrated care systems are to receive a portion of £150m additional funding for covid-related services.

£12.58 is the figure he told me is the cost of the vaccine so no money from the Government for administering the jab. As for the additional funding it will probably go on recommissioning closed down cottage hospitals because normal surgeries cannot physically accommodate post jab patients who are socially distanced and being monitored for reactions.

HSJ reports that is what GPs will be paid per vaccination under an 'enhanced services contract'. It's an absurdity to think that GPs will be buying the vaccine themselves. And you're probably right on where the additional funding will go! And definitely right about the last bit. Having to have an area set aside for monitoring for at least 15 minutes post-vaccination, with appropriately trained staff monitoring/on standby to intervene is going to seriously limit the throughput, and for most surgeries be completely impractical.

I can see the monitoring bit being quickly replaced by - go sit in your car for 15 minutes and beep yer horn if you feel a bit iffy

I'm not sure that would be enough to qualify as 'duty of care' but hopefully going forward the vaccines will improve to help reduce that risk.

Why not? after a few hundred thousand have gone through OK, its bound to get relaxed and eventually be just like any other vaccine where they just spike you and off you go

P.S. Not that I think Its a certainty that any of us will be getting it anyway

Because generally speaking, clinicians and medical staff are not like the majority of the population and actually give a shit about other people :D

As it happens Gary...

clampdown on democracy in Hong Kong, and Communist China getting increasingly stroppy with Taiwan, in the South China Sea, and on its land borders with Nepal and India.

Anyone would think that China had created some kind of distraction to steal the headlines while they pursued aggressive expansionist policies on multiple fronts...I wonder what it might be?

Oh, hang on...
