I’ve been picked at random by Imperial College London/NHS to take part in a research study it includes a COVID test by post which is collected by courier, I might as well join in.

Amazon know everything so they must know something you don’t know.....yet.
It’s all a trick.

There are known unknowns and unknown unknowns. It does actually make sense despite the press having a go at him.

"Johnson tugged his hair and suggested it would be helpful if only those who definitely had the virus should ask for a test"

Good piece by John Crace, as usual:

Unfortunately not that many people read the Guardian.
The attitude of the Tory party and some of the right wing press in continuing to prop up the most incompetent, immoral and corrupt prime minister we have had in my lifetime, shows how desperate they are to ‘Get Brexit’ done. If the Tories get rid of Bojo the clown there will be a messy leadership battle, look for those who are keeping quiet on Bojo’s breach of international law. I suspect the Tories just want to hang on until the shit hits the fan next January. Then they will be happy to have a leadership contest and election because if they lose they can blame the chaos on Labour. Their problem is that if Biden wins then we will no longer have the second most ridiculed leader in the world, we will have the first. Maybe that’s what they meant by making Britain great again, we will be world leaders in stupidity.

I watched Johnson at the Committee yesterday. It was cringingly embarrassing. If a CEO gave a performance like that at a board meeting they would be out the door like a shot.

This keeps happening. Just at the moment of greatest crises, we have the leaders least fit for purpose. Of course he was what the majority wanted back in December last year, despite his terrible track record of leadership and flawed personality, so you can only say the country got what it deserved. But to see it actually play out in reality, with the pandemic exposing every weakness of this awful government, is so depressing.

As you say, Jak, it's been a kind of competition in incompetence between Johnson and Trump, with Trump well in the lead IMO. But maybe that will change in November. Trump was badly advised yesterday to appear on a TV format that was not stage managed by Fox news. He took questions from the public, and he stumbled through it with a mixture of bare-faced lies, mistakes, incoherence and genuine anger at being properly confronted by real people. You could actually see him breaking down and losing it, massively out of his depth. At least the U.S. voters have a chance in a few weeks to unravel some of the mess they're in. If they don't take that opportunity, well, you just despair and have to conclude that humanity is irreparably masochistic.

I've just watched a clip of Jacob Rees-Mogg telling us to stop our endless carping about not being able to get a Covid test

Allegedly, all recent entrants to the Eton college had a test last week.

And then there's Boris the Forgetful who manages to un-remember his moonshot target,

I wonder what this country will be like in 4 years time :(

I am sure that JMR’s role is too make the rest of the Tory party look slightly less like the bunch of stuck up gormless twats they really are. He just doesn’t get it, because his life is so far removed from the rest of us. If he misses a day off work because he is waiting to get a test or for his child to be tested, so what. He could not work for the rest of his life and still have more money than 95% of the population.
In four years, unless we have some major social upheaval to change the status quo, we will be the poor man of Europe and have lost all credibility with the rest of the world, we will have greater difference between the rich and the poor, but at least we will have the freedom to enjoy our poverty.
