I guess no one can complain that this should go in 'The Pub' section of the forum..
The british owners of a nearby holiday home pays me to do their grass cutting during the Summer. They recently came over and gave us a thankyou present of a bottle of gin, knowing that I am somewhat partial to a medicinal G&T.
Now it appears that gin has been through some kind of trendy hipstery artisan revival type of thing, and unbeknownst to me middle class Londoners are nowadays supping on expensively branded gins opining on how subtly the delicate aromas tickle their bourgeois buds.
It all sounded fairly bollocksy, so I stuck with my 7€ Lidl special 'Castelgy' fake Gordons.
Until, that is I had a go at my present tonight! Wow! It's called Opihr, it's about £30 a litre, and it tastes fu*king superb. Perhaps you really do get what you pay for after all.
If you can get your hands on some, I can highly recommend it, although it won't be as good at cleaning old paintbrushes as my usual brand...

Re: Gin Win
I’m a gin virgin and , having dismissed Gordons and Tanqueray but being partial to Bombay Dry, I bought a Lidl Hortus after seeing the professional reviews at £16 and am happy sticking with that for now. Fever Tree is good but a bit expensive at my expertise so I’m happy with Waitrose Tonic.
I’m being pushed to Hendricks but am stalling at the price at the moment.

Re: Gin Win
Was given two bottles of gin for Christmas. Cotswold gin, which I’ve polished off and can thoroughly recommend, and a bottle of Opihr. I look forward to opening the Opihr on your recommendation. Cheers. (PS. I haven’t drunk the Cotswold this evening, I did spread it out over a fortnight)

Even if you don't end up liking the contents Spike, the bottle is a work of art in itself.Spike941 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 31, 2019 9:26 pm Was given two bottles of gin for Christmas.
