Two is the most I have ever had at the same time as I could never justify the expense.

700 Transalp and 800 VFR are the current two, can't say that I can think of anything else (at the moment)

Currently 4,
GSXR1000k4, owned from new. I always wanted a gsxr since I was a teenager, eventually after a life of scooters and bikes got round to buying one, blue and white, she's a keeper.
'12 GSA, fantastic machine, big, lots torque, low maintenance. Start and ride, love it. Can't see me selling that either.
Vespa PX210, tuned Vespa, minter which I built to use, when my tuned Lambretta GP225 in pieces.... They're both keepers, reliving my teenage years of tuned scooters and fully synth 2 stroke :-)
Think I could do with perhaps an 660Tenere, to knock about on a bit more, and lighter than GS, and I think a better commute than the big GS when I do, mmmmm and perhaps another Lambretta to build and tune, as the other is always in bits !
Sshhh, there's the bloody wife talking about needing a new kitchen :-)

There is a simple equation to work out the question of "how many bikes".

X + 1, X being the number you already have.

I've got the following bikes and only one of them is likely to go when I get around to selling it:

1974 Norton 850 Commando MKIIA - I've rebuilt it from ground up and it's a keeper.

1974 Kawasaki 750 H2C - It was my dream bike when I was 17 (1976) and it's a keeper.

1978 Laverda Montjuic - I wanted one for ages so I've rebuilt this one and will probably race it. Another keeper.

2005 Kawasaki ZX10R C2 - I've had it from new and it's in full superstock spec which means it's crap on the road. I'll sell it eventually.

2009 Yamaha 660 Tenere - It's in having a sidecar fitted and it's another keeper.

2015 KTM 1190 Adventure - Everyone needs a big bike for touring Europe. I hope I don't need to get rid of it for at least 4 years.

My wife currently owns the following:

Yamaha RD350LC - Keeper
Aprillia RS250 - Keeper
Ducati 916 BP - This will probably be gone inside a year now she's got the RS for trackdays.
Triumph 1050 Sprint ST - Up for sale
Yamaha MT-09 Tracer - she'll keep it until she can afford a BMW S1000XR

If I can get myself motivated enough to flog the ZX10R I might buy the 916 off my wife because I think it should be in the living room on display permanently (thumbs)

There's room for a nice Triton Bonneville if I can ever find one and at that point I might shift the Commando but only for a lot of cash because it's had a full on ground up nuts & bolts rebuild so it's effectively a brand new bike.

I currently have three, DR350, DR650 and KTM950ADV. The most I've ever had a one time was six, but that was just silly.

I will probably sell the 950 soon as I don't feel the need for it anymore and I need some room in the garage for a full sized bike lift, I'm fed up with crawling around on the floor

Sometimes I buy bikes and can't force myself to sell them again, then it just happens and it's gone within a week... I currently have 8 bikes but don't have any for sale ... :(
