Talks ongoing to try and save the NW200 - let's hope they are successful - the smaller events might not fair so good tho - :x

I wonder if this will actually be the end for Irish road racing?

I know the events are mostly volunteer-run, but even then it's hard to keep organising teams and expertise together if the events themselves don't actually happen.

It's been brewing for a while now though - the Tandragee races and the Mid-Antrim were on/off/on/off for the last few years. The Ulster Grand Prix - literally the world's fastest road race with a certain Peter Hickman holding that record - hit financial skids a few years ago, with Phillip McCallen leading calls for financial support.

It's grim though, a lot of businesses (particularly on the North Coast) rely on the income from these events to sustain them through leaner times. The outlier has always been the TT - but even then, with 6 deaths last year alone, the pressure is surely mounting, and it has been cited as one of the reasons for increasing insurance costs.

I think a championship should be made, the Road Racing Championship or similar, unify these races with bigger points hauls for the TT, NW200 and UGP, but include all the smaller races and try to save it.

Maybe its Time for the Isle of Man Goverment to step in With some sort of Financial assistance , As you may be aware You have to Compete in i think its 6 Road Race Events before you can race in the Manx or the TT . So if there are No Road races in Northern Ireland you cannot have any New riders competing in the Island. I Think Southern Ireland also is under Threat with no cover for the Road Races

seems to me that the prospect of no income from Irish road racing at all may have concentrated the minds of the insurers a bit.
God knows what the premium is, but having it not appear in your accounts ever again might take a bit of explaining...

The Northwest 200 just happens to coincide with our return to complete the WAW (northern half) and it would be rude not to pull it in on the Saturday. Looking at the race route I would like to view from the Coleraine end of the circuit ....... can anybody with local knowledge give advice on wether this is a good viewpoint?

The Coleraine/Portstewart stretch is mainly straight with high speeds. The Black Bridge seems to be a popular spot for spectators
