ABR Ireland Weekend 2023 - Sign Up Thread

Post by Heff »

ABR Ireland 19-21 May

We have chosen a venue on the west coast of Ireland on the famous Wild Atlantic Way

Our meet up this year will be at Westport House Camping and Caravan Park, Westport Co. Mayo which is set in the 400 acre estate of Westport House............ (Imagine a smaller version of Ragley Hall and you'll get the picture.)

Link to site here https://www.westporthouse.ie/

We have secured an area exclusively for ABR and fees are €30 for 2x nights (about £24). Your fee includes access to toilets and showers with laundry facilities, and of course complimentary WIFI, and most importantly there is a bar on site.

You must book directly with the venue on the reservations number - Tel 00353 9827766.
Mention you are with ABR to ensure you get allocated in our pitch area.
Alternatively, via email to [email protected]

Please Note their policy is 72 hours notice to cancel.

There is a Pizzeria/Bistro on site and we have secured a group booking food deal with a set menu on Saturday night again at €30 per head.

By coincidence, the Head Chef is an ABR reader, so hopefully we'll get looked after ;)

There could be a small supplement if something different is chosen from the fixed menu which is;

  • Selection of breads
  • Thai Green Chicken Curry
or
  • Braised beef in Guinness
or
  • half of 12' pizza - several options
  • burger or salmon
  • salad and coleslaw
  • Chocolate Brownie and ice cream

Link to menu here https://www.westporthouse.ie/wp-content ... u-2022.pdf

For travelling to and from the venue
Belfast to Westport approximately 184 miles - 4 hours
Dublin to Westport approximately 156 miles - 3.5 hours
Rosslare to Westport approximately 250 miles - 5 hours

As usual the meet will take to following format.

Arrive Friday for meet & greet with food available until 8pm from Gracys Bistro.

Saturday will be up to you, should you decide to explore the Wild Atlantic Way, ride some local 'Boreens' (green lanes) or something else, there will be information posted later to assist you in planning your day with some routes, suggested photo and food stops etc.
(Due to unforeseen circumstances there will NOT be an organised ride out see page 3 for full explanation).

Just plan to be back in campsite before dinner in Gracys Bistro at 7pm.

Sunday will see everyone returning home. Still working on the venue re breakfast !

Please post here on this thread when you have confirmed your booking with the site, then I will add you to the list of confirmed attendees.
When posting your confirmation, please say if you will be dining with us as the venue need to confirm numbers for food.

If you are staying elsewhere, ie a local B&B, again, please post on here and mention if you are opting for the food.

As with all such local events, this is not a commercial venture, but a meeting for like minded biker folk. All attendees will pay their own way and if you decide to join us, you do so at your own risk. If coming on the road ride outs, you must ride within the law and again you do so at your own risk.

See you there ;)

The campsite management have reminded us that this is a family orientated campsite with the Bistro closing at 22:30 and they have 'Quiet Time' and a vehicle traffic curfew from 23:00 around the site. Please bear this in mind when returning to your pitch from the pubs.

Folks - just a wee update

Saturday night meal - the two main dishes will now be Chicken Tia Green Curry & Braised Beef & Guinness

Gracey's closes at 10.30pm - there is a campsite curfew at 11.00pm

For the Friday arrival & Sunday departure - Gracy's will be serving food until 8pm on the Friday & from 12 midday until 5pm on the Sunday

For earlier departures on the Sunday - the Creel at the Quay, Westport has been recommended https://www.thecreel.ie/

Both the Creel and other pubs/cafes/restaurants are a short walk from the campsite

I went to last years event, a different area but it was good. Been to the Westport region too and it is great biking country, the boys organising know what they are doing and I am sure it will be a great event, Ireland makes for a perfect tarmac destination for bike touring and why not make a week of it as did I last year. Not intending to go this year probably Scotland instead for a UK tour, but thanks for organising and the invite boys.
