Sign Up Thread for ABR Ireland Rally 2022

Post by Heff »

Hi all.

So. With all this virus nonsense gradually fading and as we get back to some sort normality, we have eventually secured a great venue for our 2022 rally which will be held over the weekend of

6-8th May 2022

Our selected venue is Battlebridge Caravan & Camping, Leitrim Village, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim, situated on the banks of the River Shannon. This venue has won numerous awards and is listed as one of the 'Top 10' best Irish campsites.

Full site info here https://www.battlebridgecaravanandcamping.ie/

As usual, we have secured a discounted camping fee for the weekend at €25, (about £21) but if camping is not for you, the Leitrim Lodge or other B&Bs are close by in the village. Please book as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

When your booking is confirmed, please post on this thread and I'll add your names to the confirmed attendees list below = Post #1

Please state if your camping, B&B, Lodge etc or whatever you decide.

Although the venue has Glamping Pods, NONE of these are currently available for this weekend as they have been booked from 2021

To book your place and pay your deposit (see venue website for T&Cs), you MUST book directly through the campsite, please call 00353 71 965 0824 and ask for Eilish. Make sure you mention you are booking for the ABR Rally to obtain the discount

Venue benefits
  • Bar/restaurant on site
  • Full laundry facilities
  • Free pub wifi
  • Excellent toilets
  • Full showers (€1.50)
  • Music at the weekend
The restaurant was nominated in 'The Best Gastro Pub Awards' in 2021.

Rally info below last updated 25/02/22

As with previous years, this event with take the following format.

Arrive Friday, pitch your tent, meet and greet old and new faces, probably over a pint of Guinness in the bar. Food is available at the bar until 8:45pm. See menu here https://www.beirnesofbattlebridge.ie/menu

Sat Ride Out info

Please try to have a empty bladder and a FULL tank of fuel

Leaving venue at 08:00 on the now traditional 'Flintys All Day Ride Out'.

Basically it will take the following route

Ballinmore, Glenfarne for breakfast about 09:00 at Lavender restaurant for a full cooked breakfast discounted to €10. Lough Melvin then a circuit of Aghavoghill mountain, Kinlough, Mullaghamore and part of the Wild Atlsntic Way. Over to Gleniff Horseshoe, Glencar Lough, Lough Gill, Lough Allen Drive then back to campsite around 6:00-6:30 and approximately 150 miles, mixed selection of roads all tarmac.

At 8pm we have arranged a sit down 3 course meal, again at Beirnes Restaurant discounted to €24, (steak will incur €10 surcharge)

Sunday morning, a full cooked breakfast with tea/coffee/toast etc will be available on site until 11am and has been agreed at €11.

Check out is normally by 12md, but they are happy to facilitate later departures.

Further information will be added when known and this post amended accordingly.

Travel times to the venue from Belfast port is approximately 2.5 hours and 120 miles, and from Dublin port around 2 hours and 98 miles.

Hoping for a great turnout

See you all there.

;)

Nice one Heff, that all sounds great and look forward to having a pint and catch up. There'll be a minimum of 6 of us from the ABR office and maybe a few more nearer the date.

Just wondering what the Cost would be?

I would just love to go, Campsite looks great, Never been to Ireland but would like to, Great areas and roads? probably, not to mention pub culture and people, Could extend to a tour of S Ireland etcetc.

But for an oap like me, lol, .. Costs? ....
Passport,
Petrol,
Ferry x 2,
Insurances,
Repatriation,
Campsite,
Camping extras,
Beer + Food,
Toilet roll,
Police bail,
Etc ..

.. any idea?

Hi Garyboy

Re your questions, heres my best guess.

Passport. Probably, yes, as you may be required to produce to Border Control on leaving Dublin port? Better to have it and not need it.

Petrol. Its slightly cheaper in Ireland but only a few pence per litre.

Ferry. About £100 return on my last visit via Holyhead.

Campsite. About £21 for 2 nights camping on site,

Camping extras. Showers €1.50. Check out the link to the venue in Post 1 and follow the food link to the menu. We are hopeful of a group discount for Sat night.

Beer & food. Depends on how much you want to spend?

Toilet roll. No. Excellent toilet and shower facilities

Everything else, :?:

Hope that helps

Heff
