As enthusiastic as I am, you've got me wondering about my tyres now.
Tramp, I know you stipulated knobblies for your upcoming off road day due to the conditions on the Plain.
FM, are we looking at lots of slippery mud most of the day?
I'm not sure I fancy slipping about too much whilst up on my heavy ol'Vara, full PPE and crash bars or not!!
When I first got the Vara I met a guy form the XRV forum (Chad) who used to own a Vara and he advised me to play in the gravel and steer clear of mud, I guess I should heed his warning?

Jelly - dont worry (too much   )...I would like to think that we can keep this reasonably easy - as you well know, I'm no expert What I have in mind is to stick to the main range roads etc.
However by mid October, even on the gravelled trails, there is no way that you can avoid getting a tad muddy

Over a long enough timeline, everyones survival rate drops to zero
Re: No Clue 2: Salisbury Plain / October
I've got no aversion to getting muddy at all, just not sure If I'll be entering some kind of ADV suicide mission.
As my Vara's only an old pig I'll probably let my enthusiasm dictate the decision and come anyway.
I'll be keen to see what the conditions are like closer to the date.

Don't tell me you are going to but the buffalo away for the autumn, winter spring ? That when it gets interesting.
To be fair Chad is correct unless you get some serious Tyres on there. You will just dig the vara towards Oz
Would be worth a double BBRR sticker award like

Oh so tempting, will have to sort out tyres, and somewhere to camp, and a special "Small Bike, Rough Roads", sticker.
Happiness has 125cc ...

Just my thoughts...
for safety sake I`d say knobblies only..as you can be riding along nice at 30mph in the gravel and you find some wiltshire chalk/clay..and down you go with no warning..
Also for group safety you could hold others up, wadling like duck...I know its happened before  ..not saying you`ll have very dry weather or a week before then it`ll be okay..
but its up to the guy in charge and your own views..have fun and enjoy the moment.
