Re: Thermarest ............
I'm a physical therapist so when it comes to comfort towards my back and especially as regards to sleeping I go for the numero uno stuff. No comprimises also due to the fact that if you're not sleeping well during a trip then it can mess the experience up pretty bad. Furthermore travelling on a bike that can have quite severe consequences.
I'm 6"2 / 187 cm so I go with the Exped Downmat 9 pump DLX
No questions asked....thumbs up.

It's all about how big it is and how Rough you use it
Whatever you do on your path, do it mindfully.

+1 for Alpkit. Not used their sleeping mats but have used a few of there other products and they are top notch stuff for sure.
And they're customer service is excellent.

Re: Thermarest ............
Hi there, I have both an exped and a thermarest. I find the exped much more comfortable and warmer than the thermarest, however, my exped has a built in hand pump of which is a back breaker pumping it up each night and takes longer to pack away. The thermarest is easy to inflate and packs away smaller so I use the thermarest on long trips when I am limited for space and where i know the weather will be fine and keep the exped for winter camping like 'The Freeze' or 'The Boil'. Let us know which you go for. Good luck.
