Tarp set ups

Post by POD »

I'm looking to take a tarp on bike trips when its more than just me to provide a small sheltered area, outside of the tent.

I'm looking online at different set up but would love to see some pictures of everyone's tarp set ups. If you can also recommend good poles for transporting on a bike, that'd be great :)

I’ve recently spent a fortune on a custom 13ft long Superfly tarp, XLC Hammock, Wooki underquilt and other stuff from Warbonnet in the USA, the import taxes are eye watering. https://www.warbonnetoutdoors.com/produ ... ory/tarps/ There’s a uk reseller of WB stock called henge Hammocks if you want to go down the super light route.

But that aside I suggest you look at either the decathlon offering which comes with poles, https://www.decathlon.co.uk/multifuncti ... 44366.html or one from DD Hammocks https://www.ddhammocks.com/product/tarp-xl
If your anywhere near Sheffield/Doncaster I have one of the decathlon ones spare. Have a look at the above and figure out what size you want and you can take it from there
Everything is about your budget, if you want trick nesting poles that fit inside each other have a look at a Dutch company called ESVO camping https://www.esvocampingshop.com/en/tent ... ing-poles/

I have a Robens tarp--loads of attachment points--and I use the trailer type tarp short elasticated tie downs (with a plastic ball) between the eyelets and the guy ropes on all but the two main ,top guys--plenty of give in a wind. They can be configured many ways with a few extra guy ropes. bargain here as they are ripstop and light. https://www.outdoorxl.co.uk/robens-tarp ... gJqQfD_BwE
if you just want a front extension then these Vango ones work--I use one as well--fleabay 202329851304
for poles etc then Naturehike(Chinese brand) is very good value and these poles are short enough to pack on a bike--and use two, three, four etc--get rid of the elastic in the middle--very light and do the job. Fleabay 303630087135

Decathlon one, I threw the poles away and use a couple of old aluminium ones instead. PrevioiI used an ex army poncho. Cheers

Got a DDHammocks 3x3 tarp. Very good and as mentioned above has many fixing points for various set-up options.
Cheap and good value.

Not wanting to start a new thread for one question, so hope you don't mind the intrusion..
Those British army Bashas you see for sale, are they single layer material without a plasticized layer on the inside?

Asking as I want to use it to cover something that gets fairly warm and the last type I used melted the waterproof coating on the inside and it stuck to the thing it was covering..plain polyester or whatever is ok
Its a trick............get an Axe
