My stove is just for making coffee.I only like to camp within walking distance of a pub serving meals.

Re: Cook, or just heat water?
First buy good food. Our local market in Cork is known to be good.
Then you can eat in nice places. Camped beside a river.
And very sociable. Camped beside a lake.
This all travelled on two K100 bikes.........1992 K100LT June 2010 110,000 miles

Re: Cook, or just heat water?
Usually I eat in the pub but I always have a couple of pasta packets with me just in case. But I do like camp cooked breakfast... even if its just a fried egg butty

I watched you cook a stonking breakfast in Malvern (thumbs)V2orV4 wrote:Bit of both really. Got to be able to brew up at the very least. It's always good to have some easy cook stuff on board just in case, and sometimes it's just nice to do a bit of outside cooking. Mostly though I do eat out, the money saved on camping rather than hotels pays for a nice meal and beer too!
Camping is more sociable too, either when travelling alone or with friends.

Cook.
#1. Fish is quick and easy (just fry in a squirt of oil from a squirty oil dispenser) with salad or something like green beans. In fact we had diced cod with green beans and hollandaise sauce just last night camping in Norfolk.
#2. In Canada & USa last year we ate loads of steak coz it was so cheap and so good. $7 for two American size sirloins and $1 for a massive bagged salad. It made living over there very affordable. Salmon also dirt cheap over there and better than the stuff we get here. But any quickish cook meat will do. The key is to get two ingredients: one that cooks fairly slow in a saucepan and one that cooks quick in a fry pan. Cook the slow one first and keep hot in the water while you give the other a blast.
#3 is quick fry a shallot, garlic, S&Pfor a few minutes. Add curry powder and mince or finely diced chicken or prawns or fish or whatever as long as it cooks quick. Stir in a jar of curry sauce to complement the main ingredient. Boil for 5 mins then add a packet of 2 minute rice add a slug of wine, beer, cider, or water and boil for, erm, 2 minutes. There will be enough for two with a naan or pitta or something. Total cook time about 10-15 mins, cost about £5, and way better than a pub curry.
Hard boiled eggs. Soft boil a couple for breakfast but leave the other 4 in the pan for another 3 mins and you a self packed lunch for the next two days.
For campsite envy try something like mussels or prawns in white wine and cream sauce: shallot, garlic S&P as before. If you can get some parsley add it now - just tear a few heads up. After 3-5 mins add a good slug of wine or cider. Boil hard for 2-3mins until you have about half left. The aroma will fill the campsite and you will be the envy of everyone. Chuck in the mussels or prawns or fish and a small slug of cream. Bring back to boil and eat out the pan with French bread. I have cooked this many times on my big trangia with prawns and fish. Mussels need a bigger pan.

The reason I asked is I was camped next to a guy at the Hubb and he had two Trangia 25s on the go hmy: Now I like to cook with my 27 Trangia, done potatoes, veg, meats and rice etc but two Trangias! Ive found myself to be in the minority as most just do fried breakfast and heat water for drinks.
