Cook, or just heat water?

I like to cook but nothing too complicated. I have in the past made flat bread on a trangia but too much hassle to do it regularly. Mainly pasta type meals with improvised sauces and salads. Oh and fried breakfast is a good start to the day when not in a rush. Ingredients availability determines my meals as I don't like to carry too many.

I like to cook. And I love my hot tea.

But I found the best one is to bring a small bbq and make bbq food. Alsi had a neat one last year but I have a small one like a box that takes no space. Camping near home I have 2 of the pocket stoves and small gas canisters and they will cook anything. I do have a Trangia but too much trouble for me.

In France last time we bought a bbq there, for all of €12 and it was brilliant. To be fair it was warm and so we did not do other cooking, cold foods and meats. Plus, lunchtime plat du jour in most places for under €13 meant it made no sense to be cooking.

Bit of both really. Got to be able to brew up at the very least. It's always good to have some easy cook stuff on board just in case, and sometimes it's just nice to do a bit of outside cooking. Mostly though I do eat out, the money saved on camping rather than hotels pays for a nice meal and beer too!
Camping is more sociable too, either when travelling alone or with friends.

Mainly just a brew for me - I tend to eat out.

There was a really good camping food thread a couple of years back that had loads of good ideas on it. (thumbs)

When camping in Europe last year, dinner usually consisted of sausage, beans, passata or ragu. Cheese and bread.

Breakfast was eggs, spinach, more bread/croissant.

Cheap to buy daily what you need.

There's fun to be had in cooking and looking after yourself.

In your quest for lightness : buy a tin of food, de label,wash and pierce the lid. Place in the water you are boiling for a brew with the remainder for washing up. One pot meals such as cassolet, etc work well mopped up with bread for even less washing. B)

Waitrose have some reasonable looking boil in the bag meals at the moment. The range is called 'look what we found'.

Yes the waitrose ones are good ,just heat in the pan good selection and not bad on price
