Help please is this the best adventure kit?

Post by Brenhden »

Hi All,

If you lot are anything like me you have a tonne of opinions around camping gear, this summer I'm riding around Europe for a few weeks on either a CRF250L [strike]or an AJP 250 Trail[/strike] a Green Funduro. I'll be camping and need to downsize my kit on a budget. This is what I am thinking of taking:

[strike]TW02 - Givi Waterproof Cylinder Bag 30L £44[/strike] Hein Gericke Sponsor-Bag 50l £7 thanks Freeloadeur.

OXFORD FIRST TIME MOTORCYCLE PANNIERS - 2 x 24 litres £64 or some homemade affair given time.

UltimateAddons 12v DC Motorcycle Waterproof Hard-Wire Socket Accessory with 1 Metre Loom £9

Buff Original Multi Functional Headwear - Afgan Blue £10

S2S Alphalight Aluminium 3pc Cutlery Set £13 Or a spork.

Petzl Headlamp Zipka Plus 2 Green £36

Vango Venom 150 Sleeping Bag £80

[strike]Gelert Solo One Man Tent £30[/strike] High Peak Minipack Two Man Tent £20 Thanks FMFox

Trangia Mini-Trangia Cookset With Spirit Burner £21

[strike]Trangia 0.5L Fuel Bottle With Safety Valve £10[/strike]

LIFEVENTURE SOFT FIBRE TREK TOWEL *LARGE BLUE* £16

Silk sleeping bag liner Thanks Barcelona Pat

Thermarest treklite Thanks Barcelona Pat or Alpkit Airo 180 Thanks Wilso 122

The prices are for new and I will be getting second hand where I can. I will also be wearing either a pair of Altberg Hoggs or [strike]some Paraboots (dependent on finace)[/strike] Ipswitchbiker's Alpinestars cr4s, a Camelbak Mule. Other stuff like washkit as little clothes as humanly possible and a few lonely planets should be fine.

Is there anything I am missing?

Are there any better items for the same or less money?

Bren

I can definitely recommend the Oxford panniers but you should be able to find them for about half that. You'll want some kind of sleeping mat as well. £16 for a towel? Just take an old t-shirt and use that.

Thanks Willy,

I'll get one of those £5 foam rollmats, they are super light and will fit in the 30l tube bag with the tent poles.

I'm a big fan of a towel as I'm hairy like a bear and I shower two times a day. I might trial the tshirt method.

You can find light fold up camping stools for about a fiver, worth their weight in gold when you've got somewhere to sit outside of your tent while your pasta surprise is cooking.

Ref - S2S Alphalight Aluminium 3pc Cutlery Set

I like these, it's a Spork only £2.99 for the large one.

That'll do, I got mine is ASDA for a quid. Don't bother obsessing about weight, would you worry about putting a litre of water in your camelbak?

I have some Oxford First Time panniers that I bought secondhand from Ebay for £30. They're in perfect cond but I never used em as bought hard luggage just after I got em.
You can have em for what I paid for em if you want.
