For those who don't always wear bike trousers.

No, this is not a gruesome case of learn from others' mistakes.

In fact it's quite innocuous

When I ride I wear my lid, gloves and jacket, and boots.

If I'm nipping about town though, I may not wear my full biking trousers, although some will say you should. In fact the ones I wore most were my combats, but they looked really ragged having recently become legally adult by being 18 years old!! Wearing jeans is OK, but my Honda and Ural both conspire to get grease on me ASAP.

So I nipped down to a shop near my place that sells work clothes. Hard hats, dust masks, gloves, boots, safety goggles and a whole stack of clothing aimed at builders and workmen, etc.

I found a pair of fairly plain trousers with some scotchlite reflective beading and loads of pockets, but still looking normal enough to walk about town and not look like you've lost your building site. And given their purpose they are made of a pretty sturdy material. All for £20.

So next time you don't want to wear hot bike trousers for a trip to the shops, or you get your £50 jeans dirty.... Have a think of this alternative

A top tip, they also sound like they would be suitable for wearing in the garage, working on the bike.

True but I got them so that I can wear clothes that could get dirty and not be the end of the world, but ideally just to look normal-ish when out and about...

no not a myth, jeans in tesco were £3 and i have a few pairs as proof. i think they are £5 now, but i wouldnt ride in them they are like tissue paper.
i wear kevlar lined 'hardas' cargo trousers from giali, thay are comfy enough and good looking enough to wear off the bike and i prefer to ride in them even if the weathers a bit cold

I wear what I like on my bike, been stopped for wearing shorts in the past.
Usually leather trousers or cordura for long distance when weather's not so good.
Jeans to nip down town. Always wear a helmet and gloves though!

They gave me the "we've to scrape you off the street" routine, to which I replied "once I've fell off and am on the street you can give me the sermon!
I know it's the other idiots on the road that you need to watch out for, and I have read the highway code but surely it's my decision?
