Can you recommend some road riding boots please...?

Post by daveuprite »

I rode the Brutale yesterday with my old A-Stars Race boots on. Lovely boots, and full of protection for the circuit - but very little grip in the soles. In fact they are specifically designed for you to slide rather than dig in when you come off on track. But I kept slipping off the right hand footpeg.

I need a new pair of road-only boots. I've decided against anything 'adventury'. I just need a straight forward, not too pricey pair of black zip-up waterproof riding boots with a good grippy sole, and preferably OK to walk around in. Let's say 100-150 Euros.

Any tips?

Daytona for me. There may possibly be others which are good, but I'm on my second pair now after previous not-so-good makes. My first pair lasted well over 10 yrs of year-round commuting, trips and travelling, and general bikery stuff. They were still in almost perfect shape but the Goretex waterproofing started to leak slightly on one of them. Totally waterproof (up to 10 yrs, anyway), normal looks (at least for a m/c boot) and very comfy both on the bike and, importantly for me, when walking around. Not cheap, but worth the cost, and Daytona normally come out top in bike mag tests. There are various models of Daytona; I've always gone for the Non-Stop GTX, which was one of their less expensive models - not sure if they're still available but there's plenty of others in the range. A little over 150 Euros, but I've found cheapie boots are a bit of a false economy.

Mark do they come up good on size or do you need to go size bigger than shoe size.

Liz loves the Sidi Arcadia boots I bought her last year. Zip and/or lace.
Bargain price if they have your size here.

I love you all dearly, of course, but you lot are a nightmare. Now I've started sniffing around Daytona and Sidi websites and my budget has had to go up to 250 Euros. They do look much better than the cheapies I was thinking about though - and it's true that you can severely screw up your feet in a bad crash.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I'll get my wallet out on Black Friday... :D

these are not too bad .. for £65 .. imitation leather, low shin, waterproof so far, easy to clean.
trial type but i cut off the top strap as they need air in so the socks to breathe.
Nextek. also in real leather ... price may have gone up now?

my Left foot slips off the left peg ... a bit slippy tbh, but perhaps the peg needs adjusting (the angle?)

I was looking at some wide trail type pegs the other day??

I got some Oxford 'Racers' as everyday road boots.
Don't be fooled by the name: Racer they are not.
They are comfortable, waterproof, don't look at all 'racy', and have all the protective approvals for motorcycle footware.
And they cost £60 from Trago Mills!

Edit...they are actually called 'Trackers'
