Over the years, I've owned many helmets and, when I've moved on to the next new and shiny purchase, I would either give away or sell my old lids to someone else. This isn't normally a problem as I like to keep my kit in good condition with a regular strip-down and clean. A few years ago, I bought a Bultaco open-faced helmet: it has served me well and I have loved every minute of wearing it, however, over the last 6 months or so, the lining has started falling apart. Unlike most of my other helmets, the linings for this one are not removable: I can't just buy replacements so that I can refit and reuse, so I've pulled the trigger and bought a replacement.
The problem that I now have is: what do I do with my old Bultaco lid? I can't sell it and I don't really want to repurpose it as a fruit bowl or hanging basket. I'm also quite environmentally focussed, so I don't really want to chuck it in the bin. Does anyone else have experience of safely disposing of an old helmet?

I have given mine to my local Fire Station. They are happy, not just for the obvious reason. Their training is often centralised so a helmet donation gives them a chance for local training.

If local fire services, redress, st johns etc don't want it
Have a quick search online for old helmet table lamp.
There are a few good ideas there.
Especially good if you've had a few adventures with the helmet as it will always illuminate and spark off those memories

That's superb. You couldn't throw that one away. I've got a classic Ronnie Smith Magic Roundabout helmet that's far too old to be safe to wear anymore but I'll never get rid of it. Great FM / Splat design paint job:

Splat design?? Andy?? I'm sure he was the guy I met 25+years ago at a workshop/shed in Wigston/Harcourt area of South Leicestershire.
