What about Forcefield armoured undies with any old cargo pants on top? Not the cheapest option I'll give you that but it does allow versatility.

I have a pair of Giali cargo pants that are now too big for me. If you need a 38 waist, pm me.

I preferred the Hood ones anyway.

Usually squeeze into a 34" but that's not so easy after Christmas  Thanks anyway (thumbs)

I would say Red route. Simply because i was with a friend who was knocked off while wearing them. He went flying down the road and got up without a scratch (on his legs/arse etc) The only thing wrong with them was the back pocket press stud came off. He still wears them now.
I bought the exact same pair. Theres nothing like seeing how they perform in the real world to make your mind up. (Plus they are reasonablby priced circa 100 quid)

After a bit of searching I found these on ebay - total bargain! They arrived today, and I'm wearing now - and for the price they seem pretty good. If anyone's interested the sizing seems pretty spot on. I'm a 34" waist on a good day (today isn't one of those days) and they're a snug fit, but not too tight. Protection is the normal basic rubber type, but easily upgraded. Too good a price not to try.

they're also on amazon, but more expensive

I got the grey ones, which are actually darker than in the pics
