Garmin 660 Locking Bracket prototype........

Post by vRSG60 »

I have a Garmin 660 with a lock on the Ram Mount, but, there is nothing to stop anyone just lifting the device off its mount.
The fancy all singing Touratech one is over £130 but is quick release.

I've drawn up a stainless steel bracket that bolts to the back of the Garmin mount using 2 of the existing mounting holes and clamps over the Garmin unit so it cannot be removed.

NOTE - this is NOT a quick release clamp. It will require 2 nuts to be undone to remove it.
However, the on-off button is still accessible and what it will do is securely mount the Garmin to the mount and stop any opportunist from thieving it whilst you're away from the bike, petrol station etc.

I've not got any made yet.
So................ who'd be interested in such a clamp? Just so it makes it worth my while to get a few made?

Tentative price £20 - £25 hopefully. (thumbs)

Minor detail - It may require 2 longer M5 bolts, my unit came without bolts so I used my own. Consequently I don't know how long the original bolts are, or, as yet, if they will need securely fixing into the mount to stop them rotating when the nuts are tightened. The nuts will need to be tightened with the Garmin in place.
One way around this is new bolts long enough to take 2 nuts. Tighten one up to clamp the mount and then slip the clamp over & add the other nut.
(May need a tweek to the drawing if this is the case, but no bother).

3D mock up -

I'd be interested, assuming it'd fit a BMW Navigator IV, which AFAIK is a 660 in disguise.

I'd need to check on that but I guess so if the units & the mounts are the same.

I'd be interested at that sort of price - at present mine just clips onto the charging bracket which in turn is on a RAM mount.

I've drawn it up in 3D and DXFd it so it can be laser cut & bent up. Made from 1.2mm thick stainless steel. I've passed the drawing on to a mate who knows a few laser cutting fabricators & he's got a price for me. Hoping to get 10 done if I can to keep the cost down a bit.

Almost finished design, open slots so the unit can be removed by loosening the nuts but not removing them. Or would the closed slot version be preferable? The slots would still be long enough to remove the Garmin but not the bracket.

Designed to fit as shown with longer bolt, (M5 x 30 lg socket head in this case) washers & hex nuts. Adjustment could be made by taking/adding washer.
