My mate is doing his bike license atm, mod 1 done, mod 2 a week tuesday.
Anyway, he wants a drz/xt style bike as he wants to use it for work sometimes and some road/green laning on the weekends.
So a multi purpose bike really.
He has rode my drz and likes it but finds it a bit snatchy and not very comfortable, he has rode a XT600 and prefers that as its a bit softer and more comfortable.
DRZ...
Pros... fun, cheap, easy to ride, cheap to fix, pretty quick for what they are, good road handling etc.
Cons...seat a bit uncomfortable, can be snatchy, not brilliant for touring by some standards.
XT...
Pros...Nippy, comfortable, softer seat, lower, better over distance, quick, decent on and off road.
Cons...Parts not so readily available as not as many around as the drz, so can be more expensive.
Any other bikes in this type of category people can recommend?
As he doesnt have experience with this stuff, he will be relying on me to help him out, so i need help too.
Budget approx £2k
Cheers, Phil

Aprilia Pegaso 650.
I did many 10's of 1000's of miles on mine.
One ended it's time with me courtesy of being rear ended by a transit van, hmy: the other by PX for my 1150 GS.
Never had a problem with them, mechanically sound handled much better than most people thought they could. Just ate rear tyres a bit much at about 4500 miles a tyre! B)

BMW GS 650 Dakar wod be my thoughts.
Nice n straight forward bike with not too much power but enough to give a grin.
A comfy enough for a long trip , cover some green lanes , ride back in comfort and quite economical.
