Tenere 600 kick start only with the mahoosive tank its had so much character and was the perfect machine on and off road , Honda was better off road but a lack of character and small fuel tank
I used to change the front sprocket between road and off road sections whilst doing long trips in Southern Africa on the tenere

I had a 1VJ with the 6 gallon tank--in blue of course--it was the last one with both kick and electric before they went all electric, smaller tank and so on. Nice design born out of competition--and a comfortable old girl--if not a bit a bit heavy with the usual soggy suspension and poor brakes of the era. Sold it for twice what I paid for it.

Bought a new Honda XL600 LM back in 1987 - great looking bike, Red White & Blue, twin headlights and big tank - kept it for two year & clocked up over 30000 miles on it - still see the occasional one about today & they still look great.
Remember riding from London to Southampton then followed the coast to Lands End, then back to London via the A303 in one long mid summers day - from memory it was around 650 miles by the time I got back - served me well.
