Did a recent trip to the Italian Alps on my XT660z (I do love the XT but oh my ar*e ... even with an airpad ) and it was a great trip and I did the usual Assieta, Coll delle Finestrie and some other gravel tracks and the XT eat them up and in truth I didn't find them overly challanging to do ... got into far more difficulty in Wales
It was lovely though and the tramac stuff was epic.
Anyway ... it got me thinking about what I do and decided I want a bit more comfort, not too concerned with much above 70 mph anymore and wanted something a bit different ... so bought this TRK and it seems great value at less than £4400 and 4000 miles and so she's in the stable and I will see how we get on ...

Re: Benelli TRK500x
nice bike for the money i ran one for a season and tbo knowing its a 47hp bike when you get it theres little to complain about ..i found the front brake a bit wooden but certaonly powerful enough to stop short ..probably uneccasarly heavy for 500 ..but if you want to tour
solo between 30 and 80mph it did the job just fine ..quite a likable bike super tractable motor too ..it want easy to move on with 8k miles up blackpool honda offered 2500 hunts 2900 eventually went on ebay for 3500 1 year old ..i paid 4k for it with 900 miles up so with tyres and chain sprockets wear ect 500 quid for season was ok ..buying new would have been a pretty dear do ... but it was very cheap to buy ..nothing went wrong nothing fell off nothing rusted or chipped and generally it was very acceptable in terms of fit and finish ..and it is without doubt as comfy as feck
for touring the best mod is to go one up on the front sprocket that makes it a much better motorway machine and still lets it move forward pretty well off the mark ..the road version has two down on the rear as standard for a good reason i think
the new 702 looks a decent bike but the main problem seems to be very big hits on 2nd hand values ..expieriance with a 2nd hand 502 would make me interested in a 2nd hand 702 somtime in the future ..huge seller in italy with many examples going well at 50k up and more
all in all i enjoyed the 502 and for the money u pay and knowing its a a2 licence bike theres little to knock it for
hope it all goes well be interested to see how u get on later

Re: Benelli TRK500x
On the ferry back from Dublin we met an English guy who arranged to buy one in New Zealand, then flew out to collect it and rode around for a month or so before shipping it back to the UK. Since getting home he has done lots of touring on it and really rates the bike. Can't remember his name but he does go to the ABR rally.
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

Re: Benelli TRK500x
Cheers for the replies.
Minkyhead ... thats a pretty good summary, I reckon that you need to accept that you will take a punt if selling on and its not like the XT660z which hold up well on value.
I accept that ... my 2009 XT sold in around 45 mins of going on a well known aution site but it was priced to sell and I had spent a few quid on bits to make it what I wanted and you rarely get back your layout on extras.
This bike has heated grips, GIVI pannier rails, a centre stand as standard, a top box and its on a 2021 plate and its around what I give for my XT that was 13 years old and much more mileage ... so if you hold onto the TRK for a while it seems really good value.
On youtube there is an Italian guy doing RTW and he has taken that TRK places it had no right going (on paper) and 70 odd thousand kms on the clock and going strong
The 500's will be cheap as cheaps now the 720 is out ... loads will upgrade for the power ... though personally, sat on 75+ coming home from work and it was purring so I probably wouldn't bother just for the extra bit of power but hey ... lots will no doubt.
Anyway ... I'll keep you posted

Re: Benelli TRK500x
bit ott ... not sure how I have 'sold my sole to the devil'? or what that even means? ... however, yep the point about the seat on the XT I accept, but I like to try different bikes and I have had 3 XT's now and just fancied a change.
The TDM ... nah ... has an 850 once and it was like having a Ford Escort, boring to look at, ok at most things but never opened the garage door and smiled or thought 'cant wait to get out' ... nothing about the TDM 900 has ever had me think any different to the point that until your post then I doubt any thought about a TDM would ever have popped up in my head ever gain
Hopefully going to do some more of the Dolomites next season and I'll evaluate the TRK properly then ... anything off road will be easy and minimal anyway so should be ok ... certainly expecting it to be better than the XT for general touring but we will see
