Recommendations & Measurement Help Please

I'm after another bike. Problem is, I don't have a garage at home and would have to keep it out back. I had a council garage just down the road, but I had to leave, as they're demolishing them, and I won't move because I love the views. It's not feasible to build anything. I have to negotiate several steps then a 'tunnel' (that divides my house from next doors, to get from front to back). So ....

I'd like recommendations for lightweight bikes that I can run/bump up the steps, that also has narrow bars (or can you cut bars by an inch or two, as long as all the switchgear etc still fits?).
The bike would be for short, local rides only, mostly on very minor roads and no more off road than a simple track. I don't want or need performance. Light weight, narrow bars and low maintenance are the most important factors.
I was looking at something like the Honda CRF250 Rally or CRF300 Rally. If anyone has one, could you possibly measure the widest point - presumably bar end to bar end - and post it here so I can see if it would fit? I'm not too clued up about other similar bikes, but would be grateful for suggestions of alternatives. I don't want to go 'old school' with a Serrow/ DR200/250 etc, but also don't want an EXC (much as I love them and thge low weight is ideal). If anyone has something as an alternative and could take the measurement at widest point that'd be brill.

I had a CRF250 Rally and its pretty tall for that sort of thing and at about 166kg quite heavy too. Beta Alp maybe?

As already said, 250L And Rally too tall and heavy, unless you are too lol.
As pointed out already, specs give width, but add on a couple of inches for handguards if not on oem bars.
Little room to alter switchgear on bars, so probably need to buy narrower bars?

Simply put, you need a smaller lighter bike.
Maybe consider a 125 ? as power is a low issue.
Chinese bikes seem to get the idea, style and size, but as you know, jap/eu bikes are going to be better. Maybe a road bike with knobblies.. Honda 125?

Crf 230f .. if u can find ... loads of suggestions previous on this issue.

Personally, I would keep struggling with the bike I want, but improve access even if in small ways.

Maybe too small and old school,but an XR125L is light and can handle pretty decent off road stuff

Can't help with specific recommendations but I would be looking at the naked 125/250 commuter market for inspiration. Plenty of stuff out there without paying for a premium bike for 'run of the mill' use.

Back in the day, I took a bit of width off the Renthal bars on my DR350S, as one of the lanes I rode was overgrown with trees. Easy job with a hacksaw. And I bought a new-style MTM this year and did the same to that...the standard bars were so wide they were catching on the hedges of the roads round here.

Measure twice, cut once.

I'd look at a Mutt/AJS or similar Chinese 'naked/retro/scrambler' thing. You won't do enough miles on it to wear it out, and it's still a motorcycle.

You will be aware that oem bar width is calculated to suit use.
Change that and you change the whole feel of the bike.
