Shopping trip 2- get it home

Post by bikenav »

early train caught at 6.30am to meet ABR forum Man Geecee68 at Guildford 3 hours later and there he was with his old bike and soon to be my new bike and what a Gentleman to deal with can not fault the man. a short time and all sorted Garmin Montana bolted on to the bars 2 spare batteries lid on and off I went for the journey home Mr Geecee filming me on his phone as I left. I had already created a route home to SW Wales and had all day to complete it so silly to waste the opportunity to knock off as many trails as possible on the way. Ridden this bike and other 250's and 300's previously so had a good idea but myself at least untill I own it and use then it reveals itself. So first thoughts were its tall for my little sub 29" legs, its wide at the back too, toolbox one side exhaust the other, and the sidestand design is an abortion in conjunction with too soft excessively saggy suspension. With the fitted Kriega panniers the total width of the bike is quite wide and something I was very conscious of running tight to banks hedges etc, I did jib on one trail due to a tricky uphill step and narrow slot to the left but the bike width dissuaded me from taking it on, close to Devils Punchbowl, the rest of the trails other than a sandy section were pretty straightforward. The sand seemed more difficult than in the past but its been a few years since I have done much or is it the bike? it would not pull third gear in the power sapping surface. It was nearly 8pm before I bailed off the last trail and jumped on the M4 for the 2 hour drag home at an indicated 63mph revs roughly matching the speed in top. Interesting first ride and I did enjoy, the M4 being a drag and the sidestand a niggle. I have done a little more since but I will leave it there right now here are a few pics from that first journey home.

Respect for taking such an "interesting" route home on a new-to-you machine.

Heres to many more interesting and muddy ride reports.

A proper mini adventure, and a good shakedown for the new to you bike too.
