A lighter bike -KTM 890 is bliss

Post by BigTwinLover »

After 30k hugely enjoyable miles on an 1250 RT I am back on a KTM again, this time an 890 Adventure
Image and having a whale of a time.

The RT has been such a lot more fun than a large bike should be - testament to how the designers make the pounds disappear once you are rolling.
All the same, the 70 kg weight difference [rather more than my pillion in riding kit!] is amazing when walking the bike around to park - and on sand or grass etc it has traction I have not been used to.
I am enjoying riding a bike that needs so little steering input, one of the benefits of Simon Weir (former editor of Ride magazine) advice "Weight is the enemy of biking".

Here's to more fun on on lighter bikes!

My everyday ride is currently a DR200, it's a joy everywhere but fast roads. :D
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

Agreed, ditto, for so many reasons light is right? I have a late 80s air cooled 600 semi off road bike. It’s such a simple uncomplicated bike to ride. Always come home in a good mood, can just park it up, after oiling the chain, it’s all ready for next time. Over and over again. Modern bikes. Too big. Too heavy. Too many electrics. Too complex.
