Not sure how the forum managed to rotate that pic...the oil was flowing downhill in real life!

That's all the good stuff. The bad news is that the new horn doesn't work...well it does when connected to the AC on my Pampera, but not the Beta.

My multimeter says there is a healthy 13 point something volts of AC coming out of the red wire to the horn (which is live all the time) and confirmed with a test light bulb, but pressing the horn button is not doing anything. Either the switch itself is US, or the other wire is broken.

I've installed a new headlamp bulb (the old one looks like someone lit a bonfire inside it)

but I've noticed that the outside of the headlamp gets a bit hot when the lamp is on.

Perhaps a new headlamp unit will be required...this one seems to leak a lot of light back at the rider.

Are you sure it's not meant to be a DC horn?

I did wonder, at one point.

The wire is unpowered unless the motor is running (like the lights), and I wired in the DC horn off my big KTM...not a peep out of that.

Horns can be weird...I once had an old VW Golf. It had equal but opposite currents flowing though it all the time, and pressing the horn on the steering wheel actually switched one current flow off!

No, I din't believe it either.

Its a DC horn. You only need to look at the wiring diagram to see its fed from the pokey regulated supply, and there are reports of it having a short and blowing the fuse...
Mine didnt work either, but a test on a battery showed nothing so I bought one of these, which is a straight fit and... hoots!

Thanks, that's a much better diagram than the one I have!

btw - poring through the posts it seems that the regulated supply is 20W and the unregulated is 70W. I've just bought a small regulator to try and see if a bit of proper 12V can be coaxed out of the unregulated supply.
There is an aftermarket led light supplier that provides an optional small reg with their lights for these types of cheapskate machines.

Thanks...have you got a link to the thread?

I'd be interested in improving the lights if I can...the stock light seems too small for the bulb...I wonder if it can stand the heat in prolonged use?

I had a frantic ride on the 2nd. Had 2 punctures, so was running very late, repaired the 2nd in the llandovery garage yard under a floodlight, not realising it was getting dark. Two of my group left to get home in different directions, but 1 chap stayed with me and helped as we both had to go back to llangammarch. So we decided to ride through chrychan anyway, even though neither of us had ridden our bikes in the dark! I led off into the gloom, and the 35W light was ok at 40-45 on the A483, but less so as we turned onto the back road, and I was very glad of my friend riding close behind. We hardly slowed for the sunken road, as I had ridden it 4 times recently, and I'm very glad he stayed close, as it got quite exciting as the lane wound from side to side, but the light was good enough to keep an almost normal speed up. Admittedly the 'ponds' have been levelled out but its still sunken lane, rock slabs and all ! So 35W in a simple headlamp worked much better than expected, as I really didnt want to go much above 45 on the open road anyway! In total I rode 30 miles in an hour
Thats why I looked for better lights, as I could be persuaded to do that again... maybe even roman road :)
