What was wrong with the FJR1300, Bob? It does what most of those in your list above do...diggermanbob wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 7:53 pm I'm looking at buying a touring bike for some European and U.K. Travel , probably solo most of the time , got a few ideas , any sensible comments welcome,

Avoid the 955i ST. Disappointing in many ways. The 1050 ST is much much better. You can't ever go far wrong with a VFR. The BMW is dull compared with the rest I would say (but others will love it) - definitely a touring bike not a sports tourer.
Take a look at a Kawasaki ZZR1200 maybe. Quicker than everything above, except the 1050 perhaps, and handles pretty well. It can eat up Euro mileages.

Re: Touring bike
The fjr was just so heavy Dave I'm leaning towards the 1050 or vfr bit lighter than fjr and fast enough for an old pensionerdaveuprite wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 10:22 pmWhat was wrong with the FJR1300, Bob? Ah I see. Yeah they're not light are they? A nice quality bike but a proper big touring machine.diggermanbob wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 7:35 amThe fjr was just so heavy Dave I'm leaning towards the 1050 or vfr bit lighter than fjr and fast enough for an old pensionerdaveuprite wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 10:22 pmWhat was wrong with the FJR1300, Bob? 1050 and VFR are both what, about 220kgs? I've ridden both. The 1050 is pretty quick actually and can really shuffle in the twisties. I like the nice touches on that bike - the triple headlamp look, mirrored by the triple clocks. It would be better 2-up than the VFR, but if that's not an issue either would be great for visiting us out here in France...
PS: Have you thought about a Ducati ST3 ? That's definitely lighter, lots of v-twin character and does long distances.

Re: Touring bike
Yamaha XJR1300. A small-ish screen gives good wind protection - I have a Givi bar-mounted one on mine. Lowly stressed, easy and cheap to maintain, ultra-reliable, great looking, tons of torque, no silly tech stuff. It's a brilliant tourer, mine has been over Europe both solo and 2-up. Then between tours it would get track-dayed
