What have i done?

Post by daveuprite »

Ok, so I am in the middle of a lethal combination. A flush of early pension money, a lifelong obsession with sports bikes and a nearly empty garage...

I've had most of the Jap sporties, some for the road, some for racing. GSXRs, Fireblades, ZX6Rs, CBR600RRs, ZX10R, and a few Italian exotics - Aprilia RSVR, Bimota YB8E, SB6R etc. I'm addicted to the power and handling and I'm not old enough or willing to give all that up. However I have chronic back pain (2 discectomies, heaps of pain-killers etc) so the clip-ons and rear-sets have to go.

What does that leave? Super-nakeds, that's what. After much research and navel-gazing, my shopping list narrowed down to KTM990R Superduke, Aprilia Tuono V4R and MV Agusta Brutale. I've never owned an MV and it's always been on the bucket list.

So then it boils down to Triple 800 or 4 Cylinder B4 models. The top of the range at affordable money is the 1090, so I start looking for those. Why compromise once you know you want a rare exotic bike? - get the best if possible. Beautiful 1090s start popping up in Nice and Strasbourg - bloody miles from my place in Limousin. And then finally a rare 1090RR appears 100km away, the perfect year (2011/12) and a great colour combo.

The black engine model is the one that all the MV cognoscenti want, preferably in full RR spec, with mono block Brembos, hand-welded frame, forged alloy wheels, top of range suspension, adjustable headstock/levers/footpegs, dripping in carbon-fibre. 150bhp and 180kgs. Lovely.

So I snapped it up today. Left a deposit, collect next week.

Yeeehah....!!!! See you in hell...

Lovely bike, but aren't French registered bikes (pre-2016) limited to 100ps (98hp)?
Current bike is a Yamaha T7

Well it's 106bhp. But err, not this one Alan.... Don't worry - look at those brakes! Best in the business. Those same Brembo monoblocks were used by most World Super Bikes until about 2008/09. You can stoppie this bike with one finger...

They were limited to 100 PS but since 2016 they can be de-restricted (and I think re-registered) if they have ABS.

I do love a trellis.
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

Have you still got a blanket 80kph limit up your way? If so 106 BHP would have been more than enough anyway. 🙂
