Ref. quotes from above.... "Extensive electronics package"..... "Upgrade of the assistance systems"

That's precisely why I haven't bought a CRF1000/1100L (I can't call it an Africa Twin because it isn't imo). I was eagerly excited when Big H first gave news of a new AT back in 2013 and was sure I would get one, having owned an original XRV AT for 11 years. But for me it was a disappointment - bigger and much heavier than the XRV, and the mechanical/electronic complications have snowballed. That's fine if you want a to do a bit of first world touring, and there's nothing wrong with that. I ended up buying a T7, which I thought was more what a new AT should have been. But for me nothing beats the original XRV as a relatively simple, all-roads capable 'adventure' motorcycle which has no need of 'assistance' 🤣

Totally get it, ive got a 2021 AT standard DCT and yes the electronics baffled me however I've now configured them to what i need and can only say its freakin’ awesome. Like a T7 with the bits it should of had.
I have a favourite rocky hill climb locally which i twice failed on my T7, planned my climb, set the AT and it just clawed its way up, incredible machine but getting back to your point why are they so much bigger now!
20 years ago if you talked about a 1/4 ton adv bike you would have been lynched.
And now BMW are due to launch a bigger more powerful GS

Love the AT tho:))

"Honda has released its new small-displacement adventure bike in India. The bike, the CB200X, is the smallest displacement adventure motorcycle Honda produces. The Japanese manufacturer says the bike features an “Urban-Explorer” design.

The new machine carries the same engine found in the Honda Hornet. The engine is a single-cylinder, fuel-injected, BS-VI compliant unit. It displaces 184cc and produces a little over 17 HP with approximately 12 lb-ft of torque. Power makes its way to the rear via a 5-speed transmission and chain drive. "

That 200 looks like a normal road bike to me. But then every outing on a normal road in India is an adventure - traffic bombing around roundabouts in all directions (the way you go depending on the shortest distance from inlet to outlet), dozing cows here and there with no qualms about causing traffic chaos, a cacophony of honking horns, and four or five individuals to a bike. I loved it 🙂
And note the sari guard on the left side - it's not a rail for a single pannier as I had first assumed!

Very well spotted. I need one of them for my Beta 450. Getting really fed up with my sari tangling up in the rear wheel.

Don't forget the sari guard is on one side only as the wearer sits side-saddle - so that would be a sight to behold - you blasting along on your Beta, side-saddle, your lovely sari intact!

Funny you should say that, Mark.. It's in my little trick riding repertoire, a bit of side saddle. I rode about 20kms of the N260 in Spain like that one year. Hairpins are a challenge though.
