Depends what you want the bike for, but for £3k, you'd get either a good R1150GS or an R1200GS for that easily.
If you wanted an off-roader, easily get a DRZ 400.
3k to spend. What would you buy?

Back to the OP 'light and low-powered' and not for serious off-road
This, surely
and you get £1000 change!

Drz engine, WP suspension, brembo brakes and a plastic tank. The seat can be a thing of torture but seriously good fun, the common issues are wiring is tight around the headstock so can break wires/short out plus swinging arm bearings are common for wearing.
I've had the 404 and the 644 and both are fun with enduro or supermoto wheels on.

Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

Hi all, thank you for the replies. Wife's just had to get a new car so this is probably going to be on hold till next Spring. I think I have decided to go for a RE Meteor. The VStrom 250 looks a great bike but I think too similar to the Versys. Will pop down to Bude in the near future for a test ride.
